Tommy Jacobs crowned WBF European Super Welterweight Champ

April 28th Essex, United Kingdom

In a much anticipated rematch between Tommy Jacobs (UK) and Matar Sambou (UK via Senegal), the vacant WBF European Super Welterweight Title was on the line. With both fighters having held different versions of British Masters bauble, it was the WBF Blue Belt that they wanted.

In their last meeting in October 2017, Sambou stopped Jacobs in the 6th Round of a scheduled 8 round bout. But a KO was not to be in this grueling scrap with Jacobs defensive skills and footwork making sure of that.

All rounds we very close with Matar Sambou rushing in with the head and big looping shots which constantly missed and occasionally caught Jacobs to the back of the head.

The score cards show how close the fight was but not the constant clashes of both fighters. The Referee certainly earned his pay and had a busy night with this one and after cautions and warnings, eventually deducted a point from Sambou in the 7th Round but to be honest he was more than fair with both fighters in a messy encounter and he let the fight continue when most wouldn't have.

Despite the aggression from Sambou, it was the jab and swift one two combinations of Jacobs that ultimately swayed the judges decisions. A lot of rounds couldn't be split by some having scored the bout 79-74, 77-74 and 80-76 all to Jacobs.

Congratulations to the new WBF European Super Welterweight Champion Tommy Jacobs who is set to defend his crown in June or July 2018 in the United Kingdom with an opponent yet to be named.
