Al Toyogon claims WBF Asia Pacific Lightweight Title in the Philippines

The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City, Philippines was the venue and the Semi Main Event of a stacked card was for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific Lightweight Crown.

With loads of interest in the highly anticipated championship fight across the Philippines in the lead up, Al Toyogon faced fellow countryman Allan Villanueva in what was expected to be a war with Villanueva having an 11-2 record.

No feel out rounds or slow start for the rising star from Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental as Toyogon went straight to work from the opening bell and clearly looked to dominate his opponent early. Whilst the skilful Villanueva was willing to exchange and landed some clean solid shots of his own, Toyogon appeared a class above and had all the weapons in his arsenal as he landed with accuracy to both head and body throughout the first round.

The second round was no different from the first with heated exchanges from the bell seeing Toyogon again landing at will and with a crippling left rip to the body, Azarcon was down for the count of 10 and was not getting up. Hand raised in victory, Toyogon was crowned the new WBF Asia Pacific Lightweight Champion.

“Al Toyogon looks to have all the tools in his kit and is a very well rounded fighter with a very high ring IQ. He’s a crisp puncher with power, speed and laser like accuracy and with his attacking style and a very effective counter puncher when needed, should see this young man go a very long way” said WBF Vice President Paul Saunders who watched the bout live on Elorde TV Live from his home in NSW, Australia.
