Hard punching Filipino Rodynie Rafol stops Aussie Tyson Lantry

Saturday October 12th … Neutral Corner Fight Promotions in Sydney, Australia hosted the event which drew a capacity crowd in the heart of the Sydney Metropolitan Area and all in attendance were certainly not disappointed…

Lantry v Rafol

With the vacant WBF Asia Pacific Lightweight title on the line in a battle of styles Tyson Lantry of Australia faced off against the more experienced and rugged hard hitting Filipino Rodynie Rafol.

The first round saw the Australian Lantry moving well, composed, sitting behind lightning quick jabs to the head and body that were finding the target and making Rafol miss with his wild loaded over hand rights, uppercuts and left hooks that were thrown with bad intentions. Comfortable round for Lantry (10-9).

The start of the second was a continuation of the first with Lantry looking comfortable and moving well but the hard hitting Filipino started to shorten the distance with his punches that he lacked in the first and started to find the target on occasion and half way through the round landed a big right hand that sent Lantry to the canvas. To his credit Lantry was up quickly looking to his corner for instruction and was clearly rocked by the power right hand of Rafol. The Filipino poured on the pressure knowing he had the Aussie in trouble. Up against the ropes with Rafol loading shots, Lantry rolled and swayed and made the Filipino miss again and again and was unable to mount a counter attack but managed to escape the ropes and move off and away. Rafol continued to pressure Lantry until the end of the round but the Aussie held on. (Rafol round 10-8)

As the bell sounded for the start of the third round, the Australian clearly on unsteady legs from the prior round came out confidently as he had in the first but Rafol smelling blood went back to work loading up and landing heavy shots and at 34 seconds of the round Lantry's corner had seen enough and threw in the towel just as referee Will Soulos was about to wave it away himself…

The heavy handed Filipino was too strong on the night and crowned WBF Asia Pacific Lightweight Champion… Congratulations Rodynie Rafol of the Philippines!!
