Beauchamp is the new Champ

Thai born New Zealand Lightweight Nort Beauchamp has claimed the vacant WBF World Boxing Foundation International Lightweight Title by out pointing credentialed Irishman Gearoid Clancy in a hard fought 10 rounds on a Neutral Corner Fight Promotion Saturday July 2nd in Sydney, Australia.

Beauchamp vs Clancy

Beauchamp was fighting outside of his home country of New Zealand for the first time in his 10 fight professional career. The only blemish on the southpaws record to date was to undefeated Cairo George which was a New Zealand National Welterweight Title bout in March of 2015.

Beauchamp did not travel lightly so to speak, for his much anticipated title shot. He brought with him a contingent of loyal fans who also made the trip to Australia to support their countryman and had another army of vocal Sydney based friends and fans that were awaiting his arrival at the sold out auditorium.

The WBF championship bout scheduled for 10 rounds that was live streamed around the world and also aired on Fox Sports saw Beauchamp being extremely patient in the early rounds with Clancy also composed and confident but coming forward on occasion looking to mix up his attack on the tricky southpaw.

The middle rounds saw more action but still an obvious chess match due to the styles of the two fighters. Clancy moving well and staying just out of range occasionally looking for a loaded lead right hand and countering well in the exchanges however Beauchamp was in control of the fight landing his lead right hook which found its mark often enough to allow him to be the aggressor following up with short sharp combinations.

The later rounds saw both combatants step it up a notch with Beauchamp still the front foot aggressor commanding centre ring, picking his shots and controlling the pace of the fight.

 Beauchamp vs Clancey

The tenth and final round had Clancy come out of his corner with obvious purpose. Possibly under instructions from his corner that he may have needed a knock out to win the fight, the Irishman was on the front foot hunting for loaded heavy shots and throwing more punches than he had in any of the previous rounds. His aggression had Beauchamp on the back foot for much of the round, but Clancy had left his run too late.
