Adam Fitzsimmons new WBF Australasian Light Heavyweight Champ

Australian Adam Fitzsimmons and fellow Aussie Josh Jenkins headlined a huge sold out Pro-Am card at Taree in NSW, Australia recently. Both fighters with extensive and decorated amateur careers faced off for the vacant WBF Australasian Light Heavyweight Title.

Anticipation was high for this Championship contest, as the hype around boxing circles in Australia was that this was a real 50/50 fight that Callaghan Promotions boss Beau Callaghan had put together.

Jenkins controlled the opening round after both combatants had traded telling blows early. The second round saw Jenkins come out firing and maintaining the aggression throughout as he did in the first until Fitzsimmons landed a solid body shot that sent Jenkins to the canvas.

The third round was a close and busy round with both fighters landing scoring punches until Fitzsimmons zeroed in on another savage body rip that sent Jenkins to the floor for the second time in the fight. Jenkins the tough and durable fighter that he proved to be was up and beat the count and battled on to see the round out.

Round 4 had the now confident Fitzsimmons starting fast and dominant almost as if sensing victory was near and knowing that he had exposed a chink in Jenkins amour with his previous body attack, launched a combination that finished with another pin point accurate body rip that had Jenkins down for the third and final time before his corner had seen enough and threw in the towel.

Full credit to Sydneysider Josh Jenkins for his tough as nails performance in this championship bout, especially after taking the fight on short notice and congratulations to the new WBF Australasian Light Heavyweight Champ Adam Fitzsimmons.
