Marino Goles (Croatia) took just 4 minutes to shatter the title hopes of Ratko Draskovic (Montenegro) to become the new WBF International Cruiserweight champion.
In front of a sell out crowd at the Hotel Marsoel in Chur, Switzerland on Saturday night Goles outclassed the experienced Draskovic with a series of devastating body blows that had the former 3 times Balcans champion reeling. It was a change of tactics for Goles whose previous encounter with his opponent had ended prematurely with Draskovic having to retire through injury in the second round back in May last year.
In that encounter Goles had concentrated on head shots but on studying tapes of the fight had noticed a gap in Draskovic’s armour. “My game plan was to surprise him with body punches. I knew he wouldn’t expect this of me after our last fight”. Goles was not wrong. The gallant loser, Draskovic, admitted he was taken by surprise and was helpless to counter the onslaught. At 1:19 of round two Draskovic went down and though bravely attempting to rise from the canvas could not beat the count of the referee Oliver Dutschler.
The lively and enthusiastic crowd at the S’Ko’Ko Box-Promotion show were certainly given a glimse of an exciting new
prospect in Marino Goles who is looking to make a first defence of his new WBF title in his home town of Zadar, Croatia.
