On October 24th in Dessau, Germany, the ‘White Buffalo’ Francois Botha (47-4-2, 28 KOs) wants to hunt down his next German prey, Willi ‘The Ox’ Fischer (37-6-1, 24 KOs), after already upsetting Timo Hoffmann last May. The last time Dessau hosted professional boxing in 2007, Natascha Ragosina delighted a sold-out audience in the Anhalt-Arena in a world title fight. “It’s about time the city plays host again to a big boxing event,†said Dessau’s sports director Ralf Hirsch, after vehemently lobbying his city with promoter SES Boxing. DSF television will broadcast the heavyweight clash between the ‘Buffalo’ and the ‘Ox’ live in Germany. The appearance of Francois Botha in Dessau is the most large-scale boxing event ever in the city.

Msuthu v Otieno

28 August 2009
In one of the better ‘world’ title fights seen in this country this year, Lubabalo Msuthu overcame inexperience and a tightly closed right eye from the sixth round to produce an outstanding performance in pounding out a unanimous points victory over the very capable Kenyan, Nick Otieno over 12 all-action rounds to retain his WBF bantamweight title at the Orient Theatre.
Msuthu at 10-2 (9) going in, was way short of the experience of Otieno who was 18-2 (7) going in and the holder of the WBC International and ABU titles. The Kenyan was certainly a formidable opponent who has seen action at the highest levels. Although his record has many unknown names on it, it shows a majority decision loss to Eduardo Garcia for the IBF title in their fight in Russia in February 2008, and a points loss to the world class Filipino, Z Gores in their fight in the Philippines in May last year. Otieno returned to the Philippines in October last year to score an eighth round KO over Rexon Flores. Msuthu, who was making his first defence, won the WBF title in a superb display of power and aggression with a seventh round KO over Jose Cabrero in November last year.
