French WBF welterweight boxing champion Issa Hamza battled to a unanimous points victory over Uruguayan challenger Ruben Francisco Silva Diaz to retain his title in the Cameroonian capital Yaounde on Friday.

The 12-round bout was hotly contested as each fighter came close to knocking out his opponent on several occasions, but the 29-year Cameroon-born champion benefited from the support of around 10,000 supporters.

At 19, Detroit’s Vernon (Iceman) Paris is a champion, and it didn’t come easy.

In July 2006, he survived a shooting attack in the city, a bullet still lodged in his groin that doctors will not remove for fear of causing more damage.

On Thursday, he overcame a game opponent to win the WBF All-Americas welterweight title at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn.

Before a near-standing room only crowd, and FSN cameras, Vernon “Iceman” Paris again saw victory in a boxing ring winning his 17th professional fight Thursday night at the Ford Performing Arts Center in Dearborn. In addition to the win, the 19-year old Paris earned his first significant – and unquestionably legitimate – title, the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) All-Americas Welterweight championship.

Paris and Carmody Weigh In

Vernon “Iceman” Paris (16-0) and Kevin Carmody (10-8) both successfully weighed in tonight ahead of their WBF All-Americas Welterweight clash tomorrow evening. Official WBF Supervisor Billy Reese reports Paris tipped the scales at 142 lbs and Carmody at 142.5 lbs.

Fights begin Thursday night from 7:00pm at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Centre in Dearborn Michigan.
